The town of Mhardeh in the province of Hama, Syria is currently surrounded by the radical extremists who are making all kinds of threats against the residents including the threat of beheading. The town is comprised of approximately 50,000 Antiochian Orthodox Christians. Residents are starting to flee and thus another Syrian Christian town is emptied of its population.
"No resident of Mahardeh is fleeing the city even women and children are determined to stand against the barbarian attacks and fight for thier city. Even more, many expatriates of the city are returning back to stand by thier brothers and families. True danger is there but also true christians strong men are there... Anybody ready to help this community is welcomed. Remark: the population of the city is 20,000 not 50,000"
Note: The total population of Mahardeh district as listed in the Syrian Census fpr 2004 is 143,953 of which the actual town of Mahardeh is a componant part. Rebels are already present in the district. Seven people are already reported dead from rebel violence in the area.
